Award Details

Scholarships are awarded annually in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $7,500 and are not renewable. Students may reapply each year as long as they continue to meet the eligibility criteria – even if they have previously received a scholarship.

An independent selection committee will evaluate applications for each award and select recipients considering:

  • Academic achievements and records
  • Financial need
  • Essay content
  • Recommendation

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for this program, an applicant must:

  • be a current student enrolled in an eligible program including veterinary medicine (DVM), medical school and nursing programs (BSN, RN-BSN, MSN, or DNP)
  • be currently enrolled and in good academic standing at Chamberlain University, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine or the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine
  • meet a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • have completed a minimum number of credit hours or be at an eligible stage in their program
  • be pursuing a degree aligned with healthcare or veterinary fields
  • submit a completed application including a required essay response, at least one recommendation, academic transcripts and FAFSA Submission Summary

Application Process

To apply for the 2026-27 Covista Foundation Scholarship Program (beginning April 15, 2026):

  1. Click the Apply Now button or go to https://aim.applyISTS.net/Covista to create an AIM account using your email address and chosen password.
  2. Log in to your AIM account to be taken directly to the Welcome page of the application.
  3. Complete all required fields in the online application and upload all required documents.
  4. Click the Submit button on the Save/Submit page of the online application.

AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS

Banfield is a leading provider of preventive veterinary care with more than 1,000 hospitals and a team of passionate professionals who share a united purpose: A Better World For Pets.

Two (2) scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded annually to students enrolled in their 4th, 5th or 6th semester at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applicants must have plans to pursue a career in primary care practice.

Students currently employed by Banfield are not eligible to apply.

The Blue Buffalo Foundation Joyce Novotny Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Joyce Novotny, a generous humanitarian and lover of all animals. This scholarship continues Joyce’s passion for helping promising veterinary students.

One (1) scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded annually to a student currently enrolled at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum of 30 credit hours completed.

Established in memory of Dianne Barnes, a founding member of the DAISY Foundation, this scholarship supports students whose drive to be a nurse reflects Dianne’s passion for the importance of caring for patients not only with their brains but also with their hearts.

One (1) scholarship of $2,000 will be awarded annually to a student currently enrolled at Chamberlain University with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum of 24 credit hours completed.

Dr. Karl Stockhausen had a passion for helping others and fighting overwhelming odds to accomplish his goal. He was a driven and dedicated individual who always found time to give, even after tragically losing his life to cancer at the young age of 28. The Dr. Karl Stockhausen Memorial Scholarship was established to assist medical students who have a strong dedication to the service of others and/or who have overcome, or continue to have, financial, physical or cultural challenges on their way to becoming a physician in the service of others.

Three (3) scholarships of up to $5,000 each will be awarded annually to students currently enrolled at American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum of 24 credit hours completed.

After graduating from Texas A&M in 2009, Lanse pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian when he attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in Saint Kitt’s and Nevis in the Caribbean. Though nervous about his first international flight on his way to the island, Lanse soon made Saint Kitt’s home and experienced more adventure and friendship, finding time in his studies to make memories while hiking, boating and getting involved in intramural sports. He began working at the same vet clinic where his journey started – the Kaufman Vet Center. There Dr. Fox practiced medicine, learning Spanish to better communicate with his patient families, and spending lost time with his beloved mama. Lanse passed away March 8, 2014, in a Dallas hospital. As an organ donor, in death Lanse saved the lives of other people, continuing his legacy of making people’s lives around him better. 

Two (2) scholarships of up to $7,500 each will be awarded annually to students currently enrolled at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum of 30 credit hours completed.

A Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine alumnus (’00), Dr. Buedel began providing this scholarship in 2021 as a way to help students with the astronomical amount of debt that can accumulate through vet school. Understanding the stress that can create, he wants students to focus more on becoming better veterinarians and enjoying their careers.

One (1) scholarship of $3,500 will be awarded annually to a student currently enrolled at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum of 24 credit hours transferred or completed. Preference will be given to students who are interested in small animal practice in the state of Illinois.

A 2002 graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM), Dr. Michael Zareski was a member of the RUSVM Alumni Action Council who dedicated his life to helping others. In addition to his practice – Western Veterinary Group in Palos Verdes, CA – Dr. Zareski founded 4EverFoundation, a non-profit organization that helps cats and kittens find adoptive homes. Dr. Zareski lost his life in a tragic accident in December of 2017. This scholarship, established by the Zareski Family Trust, will continue his legacy by providing scholarships to students who embody Dr. Zareski’s spirit of helping others.

One (1) scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded annually to a student currently enrolled at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum of 30 credit hours completed. Applicants must be entering into their clinical year.

The Fred and Kay Krehbiel Nursing Scholarship was created in honor of Fred and Kay Krehbiel to support and inspire future nurses during their educational journey at Chamberlain University. Kay was a registered nurse and Fred served on the DeVry, Inc. Board of Directors – both believing strongly in the power of education to create opportunities and help people reach their full potential.

Two (2) scholarships of $5,000 will be awarded annually to nursing students currently enrolled at Chamberlain University in good academic standing and with a minimum GPA of 3.0, a minimum of 24 credit hours completed and at least two (2) sessions remaining after the close of the application cycle.

Supporting future nurses with a passion for making a difference for individuals with disabilities, The John-John, Big C & Jacko-Bug Nursing Scholarship was created to further the Evanosky Foundation’s mission of supporting families and children impacted by disabilities.

Four (4) scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded annually to students currently enrolled at Chamberlain University in the Chicagoland area (Addison, Chicago or Tinley Park) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum of 69 credit hours completed completed towards a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Applicants should also have demonstrated interest in becoming a healthcare professional and a passion for working with people with disabilities.

This scholarship was established by family, friends and colleagues in memory of Julie A. McAfooes, MS, RN-BC, CNE, ANEF, FAAN, who had a long and diverse career at Chamberlain University. Julie achieved a reputation for envisioning ways that innovative technologies could be integrated into nursing education. Her work on the co-authored book, Simulation in Nursing Education: From Conceptualization to Evaluation was the first of its kind on simulation in nursing education. 

One (1) scholarship of $1,500 will be awarded annually to a student currently enrolled at Chamberlain University with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and studying for their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).

Kathleen Modene was a former Chamberlain University faculty member who was part of the team that led the transition of Deaconness College of Nursing to Chamberlain College of Nursing. She facilitated the growth of Chamberlain from the original St. Louis campus to more than 20 campuses nationwide and was responsible for Chamberlain nursing programs gaining and maintaining national accreditation status. This scholarship was established by family, friends and her Chamberlain colleagues to continue her legacy.

One (1) scholarship of $1,500 will be awarded annually to a nursing student currently enrolled at Chamberlain University with a minimum GPA of 2.7 and minimum of 24 credit hours completed.

Dr. Tony Kremer established the Kremer Veterinary Strategies Telehealth Scholarship to assist students attending Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with tuition costs.

One (1) scholarship of $3,500 will be awarded annually to a student currently enrolled at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum of 24 credit hours completed. Applicants should be exploring the role of technology in veterinary medicines, with a focus on telehealth services that enhance patient care and accessibility.

The Susan Groenwald Nursing Leadership Scholarship aims to provide scholarships to students who exhibit a strong desire to succeed despite personal hardships and who are dedicated to assisting underserved populations. For more than 40 years, Susan Groenwald, PhD, RN, ANEF, FAAN, has embodied leadership and innovation in nursing, higher education and business. Serving as the president of Chamberlain University from 2006 to 2018, she expanded Chamberlain College of Nursing’s reach in healthcare education by extending the footprint from one campus to 21 sites in 15 states. Thanks to her extraordinary contributions, Chamberlain University is one of the largest nursing schools in the country.

Eight (8) scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded annually to students currently enrolled at Chamberlain University with a minimum of 6 credit hours and no more than 30 credit hours completed towards a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN or RN-BSN) degree. Applicants must also exhibit an active utilization of available school resources, as well as participation in school-based organizations, and complete one experience in the Chamberlain Achieve Co-Curricular platform under the Experience types: Community or Equal Access of Belonging.
